Our projects are GIS & Geospatial related, which means that knowledge of the Google Maps API, Google Earth API and/or CesiumJS libraries, ESRI’s ArcGIS for Server JavaScript and REST API’s and similar will be needed as time progresses. You will be required to learn how to leverage HTML5 for use on tablets or developing smartphone apps with any number of development frameworks.
Position Overview
As a key leadership role, reporting to the CEO of the firm, the Product Manager is accountable for managing and coordinating development resources and processes with a strong focus on delivering SaaS-based software product releases, while defining the strategy of the product development team by driving initiatives that deliver on the i-Open vision.
Product Leadership & Business Support
- Collaborate with Sr. Management Team in defining the product vision and the execution of the delivery, management and maintenance of product Lines
- Provide front line support to Sales and Business Development initiatives as product expert, including effective delivery of demos and pre and post-sales support
- Conduct market research; generate product requirements; determine specifications, production timetables, pricing, and time-integrated plans for product introduction; develop marketing strategies.
- Recommend the nature and scope of present and future product lines by reviewing product specifications and requirements; appraise new product ideas and/or product or packaging changes.
- Bring new products to market by analyzing proposed product requirements and product development programs; prepare return-on-investment analyses; establish time schedules with engineering and manufacturing.
- Proactively pursue self-instruction on all relevant technical topics. Work with clients to assist them during the implementation process of software.
- Contribute in the development of project plans for all assigned projects. Work with the team to provide accurate time estimates for development. Ensure the smooth delivery of projects as specified in the project plan.
- Work with development and team and graphic designer to create innovative and appealing web sites using industry standard methods.
- Assist with the building, testing, documentation, installation and training of customized applications integrated with selected products with a particular focus on UI and UX for JavaScript, HTML5 and mobile interfaces.
- Supervise recruitment, training, retention, and organization of development staff in accordance with the company hiring process, personnel policies, and budget requirements.
- Oversee and manage documentation for future maintenance and updates.
- Manage complex SaaS based product lines as per i-Open’s offering within the targeted verticals, primarily Municipal Government and Energy Sectors.
- Perform needs analysis and requirements gathering from industry groups to ensure product delivers optimal solutions.
- Perform simple UI/UX design and mockups to communicate with clients, developers and designers.
- Working with internal staff and partners, Manage development and testing of prototypes.
Product Development
- Manage Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
- Manage revision control and automated build systems utilizing existing systems
- Work with QA/Testing team to implement acceptance tests.
- Analyze and document market trends and competitive offerings.
- Coordinate feature sets and product road map with management team.
- Design and development of server based tools and APIs. Create robust server side applications with well documented APIs to integrate with web based front. Technology platforms would primarily be C# but may include PHP or Java depending on requirements.
- Create innovative and appealing web sites using industry standard methods.
- Create and manage spatial data schemas and metadata catalogs within databases.
- Work with the team to provide accurate time estimates for development of components and Develop standard processes for data gathering tools to assist developers with prototypes.
- Create user requirements and technical documentation.
- Support and Troubleshoot applications and infrastructure. Provide technical support; investigate and resolve production problems.
- Document roll out procedures and strategies for software; creation and maintenance of functional and technical design documents, as well as some general business analysis.
Technical Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree/diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology management or related education and/or experience.
- 3-5 years of professional product management experience gained from within an enterprise level computing environment.
- Professional certification is preferred but not required will be an asset.
- Extensive Experience using related programming languages (Javascript, .NET(C#), AJAX, Python, PHP, HTML, DHTML, XML, CSS) to develop applications
- In-depth knowledge of ESRI’s ArcGIS Server and Google Earth/Map and associated software; Open Source mapping platforms would be an asset.
- Fluency with RDBMS such as Oracle, SQL Server, MSSQL and database design would be an asset.
